Every bumper, target, and voice clip has been recreated immaculately, and will give a thrill to anyone who’s wished they could own one of these amazing machines. They’re beauties to behold, with the developers careful to leave nothing out on each one. This game collects a handful of William’s classic pinball tables, rendering each one of the real-world tables in amazing detail. It could be about the ridiculous scores, the flashing lights, or the boundless rage you feel when you ball drains down one of the side hazards, but pinball just grabs me and doesn’t let go.įor a person who is interested in pinball this is a great jumping off point. Maybe it’s the sheer intricacies of each table that keep me fascinated, or how the slightest change in position on a flipper can make all of the difference in a shot. I won’t even touch World of Warcraft for that reason, but pinball whittles right on through. Pinball is one of my secret gaming weaknesses, somehow bypassing all of my defenses against games that don’t end. ![]() Or so I thought, until I played the one game that has pulled me away from Mortal Kombat, which was Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection. Playing for a high score just doesn’t have any appeal to me whatsoever. I have to be able to beat a game in order to enjoy it. Even if the narrative is crap, it’s fine so long as there is an end to what I’m doing. In fact, any game that doesn’t have a strict end isn’t something I usually have any interest in playing. I just don’t see any point in playing them myself. For me, it was the best $9 I ever spent.Īs a whole, I don’t hate casual games. For less than the price of the average Xbox Live Arcade game, you get real playable pieces of history. Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection was a game that was already good on the PS2 and Wii, but it became nearly perfect on the 360. If you succeed in getting just a couple of the Achievements, you can consider yourself a pro. There is also the Williams Challenge to pass to unlock the last table which requires you to beat target scores on all twelve of the basic tables back-to-back without stopping. In addition to the Achievements, there are a bunch of additional goodies (like special balls) to unlock. ![]() There are ten goals to clear on each of the twelve open tables, and they all demand your A-game. Pinball has always been a game of real skill, and that mentality translates here. The Achievements in this game are very tough there are NO gimmes. If you're a gamerpoint whore, you need to look elsewhere. On a good HDTV or monitor, the graphics are so sharp that you can actually read all of the text on the tables! The jump to 360 was definitely good for the game as all of the artwork was remastered in HD. They still come extremely close to behaving like the real McCoys. The physics are a little floaty but just barely. These tables are all-time classics that were produced by Williams from the 70s to the 2000s meticulously recreated in digital form with all the bells and whistles intact. That trumps the PS2 and Wii versions which only had nine tables. This dirt-cheap disc (I got mine at GameStop for only $9) carries 12 pinball tables with one more to unlock. If you ever wanted to showcase your pinball wizardry, you can't do better than this. Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection is one of the most perfect pinball games ever created. Yet, on the 360 there are a total of 2 pinball games (the original Xbox had 2 as well). ![]() Pinball requires the kind of skill and practice that games like Ninja Gaiden 2 and Shinobi on the PS2 require. Pinball has to be one of the most overlooked genres in video games today. ![]()
